Blog 14

For my final episode I watched, episode 9 “Ariel” from Firefly. After I originally watched this episode, I thought it might be a good episode to write about because I liked the message that it was portraying. Then after discussing the things we discussed in class on Tuesday, I knew that I had to write about this episode! After watching the episode a second time, I picked up on some things that I didn’t realize the first time. (But isn’t that how it always is? HAHA) I definitely picked up on Jayne’s actions in this episode a lot more. At the beginning of the episode he seems very into the doctor’s plans for a job because it is worth a ton of money. However once he’s in the hospital with Simon and River, he leaves them alone in a room and talks to the Feds via an iChat thing. He tells the Feds that he has their “fugitives”. When I first watched this episode I was so confused because I had no idea who the “fugitives” were. But as the episode progressed, I slowly learned that Jayne had ratted them out to the Feds. I couldn’t believe this when this happened. I was so angry because I didn’t understand why he would turn his back on them in order to make a little more money. The Fed that Jayne talked to via the iChat thing even said that he was “about to become a very rich man”. It seems to me that nowadays people will do anything for money. Even if it means putting others lives in danger. Then at the end of the episode, Mal puts Jayne’s life is in danger when he discovers what Jayne did. All I have to say is karma is a bitch!
