Blog 16
I read one of my articles titled, “Is Greed Still Good?” by Deborah Solomon. Solomon is a writer for The New York Times magazine. Originally, I thought that this article would explain why or why not greed was still good; however, it didn’t. It was an interview between Solomon and movie director Oliver Stone. Stone’s movie “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” recently hit theaters. 75 percent of this article probably won’t help me with my paper and my argument; however, there was a quote that I liked of Stone’s. Solomon asked, “In the new film, Gordon Gekko, the disgraced financier, turns out to be a softie trying to reconcile with his daughter, a left-wing blogger,” and Stone replied, “I wouldn’t say that he has gone soft, but he certainly has matured, and he suffered. I think the movie is very much about family. If you’re a coldhearted person who just admires money, you’re not going to get anywhere.” I really liked the part of his answer about if you’re a coldhearted person that just admires money, you won’t get anywhere. I honestly believe this is true. That quote, I believe, really explains Jayne. I believe that in episode 9 (the episode that I’m writing my paper on) Jayne really is a coldhearted person that only wants money and doesn’t care about his “family”, Jayne’s family being Simon and River. I think that the money from the Feds got to Jayne’s head and he didn’t realize what the consequences of his actions would be.
